NLA Profile

An association between Graham Young and Johan Barnard was formed in March 1994 to initially carry out two major urban design projects for Johannesburg City Council. It brought together two individuals with complementary backgrounds in landscape architecture, environmental planning and urban design. In November 1994 the association was formalised and today Newtown Landscape Architects is involved with many landscape architecture and environmental planning projects. 

Profile of Experience

NLA provide well-managed design, development and environmental plans and offer an array of services and expertise that can add long-term value to a project. Services include:

  • Landscape master planning and urban design;
  • Open space planning including frameworks, resort planning and detail park design;
  • Ecological planning and design;
  • Environmental planning including environmental impact assessments and environmental management programmes;
  • Visual impact assessments and computer generated photo-simulation;
  • Site and landscape design for domestic, commercial and industrial sites;
  • Landscape master planning for quarry and landfill end-use plans;
  • Landscape rehabilitation and management.
