An association between Graham Young and Johan Barnard was formed in March 1994 to initially carry out two major urban design projects for Johannesburg City Council. It brought together two individuals with complementary backgrounds in landscape architecture, environmental planning and urban design. In November 1994 the association was formalised and today Newtown Landscape Architects is involved with many landscape architecture and environmental planning projects. 

The members are Graham Young and Johan Barnard.

Graham is a registered landscape architect with twenty-five years international experience. He brings to the firm expertise in landscape architecture, ecological planning, urban design, project management and visual impact assessment. Graham also lectures landscape architecture and urban design to post graduate students at the University of Pretoria, Department of Architecture.

Johan holds degrees in landscape architecture and urban design. His contribution to the firm is landscape and urban design, specialising in construction detailing, tender and contract documentation, site supervision, cost and contract management. Johan manages our Johannesburg office and oversees operations.
