Project type: Small Urban Park
Client: Toyota, South Africa
Landscape value: R 2,000,000
Project description: Toyota South Africa commissioned the winning sculptor of a competition to sculpt a stallion rising up on its back legs – the logo for Toyota South Africa. Two horses were cast in bronze. One was placed outside the Toyota’s headquarters in Sandton and the other donated to the Sandton Town Council. A design competition was commissioned by Toyota to establish a landscape setting for the sculpture. Graham Young’s winning design conceptualized a small landscaped urban park as the setting for the sculpture, which was located near the Sandton Civic Building. The horse is offset against a circular water feature with fountains and trees arranged adjacent the water feature that provide shaded seating areas.
